Are you making yourself age faster?
We’ve all had those Mondays… You had an awesome weekend, enjoyed a few too many glasses of wine, and probably didn’t get enough sleep - but you’re probably not looking your absolute best.
Not only is your lack of sleep dulling your glamorous glow, it’s also making you age faster. But don’t worry, there are a few things you can do to help slow down the process.
Eat less sugar
Eating a diet high in sugar decreases the rate of glycation - a process where blood sugars attach to proteins to form new molecules. These molecules are called advanced glycation end products (AGEs). AGEs damage nearby proteins inside your body and make collagen dry, brittle, and weak.
Stop smoking
Many of the chemicals in cigarettes and tobacco smoke damage both collagen and the elastin in your skin.
Protect Yourself From The Sun
The sun’s UV rays break down collagen and can cause abnormalities in your elastin. Damage to your skin’s collagen causes skin to rebuild incorrectly, forming wrinkles.
Sleep More
Not only does a good night’s rest prevent dark circles, it also gives our bodies the time they need to repair and rejuvenate.
Avoid Stress
We get it, it’s hard to live a stress-free life. But stress can have a huge impact on your overall well-being. Stress increases hormones like cortisol and norepinephrine, which increase your blood pressure and weaken your immunity. Try to schedule in a few moments of “me time” throughout the week to reduce your cortisol levels.
